The Philharmonia Orchestra is a world-class symphony orchestra based in London, founded in 1945 by EMI producer Walter Legge. With a reputation for artistic excellence, it is the resident orchestra at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall and maintains key residencies in several UK cities. Led by Principal Conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali, the Philharmonia is known for its dynamic performances, adventurous programming, and pioneering use of digital and immersive technologies to reach new audiences. It collaborates with many of the world’s leading conductors and soloists, performing a wide-ranging repertoire from classical masterpieces to contemporary works. As a registered charity, the orchestra is committed to music education, community engagement, and accessibility, delivering innovative learning programmes and outreach projects alongside its concert work. With an international touring schedule, award-winning recordings, and a strong presence online, the Philharmonia continues to shape the future of orchestral music in the UK and beyond.
